Product update · Pinyin and vocabulary support

Support that helps you read without taking over

LangStep makes pinyin and vocabulary support available at the point where a beginner needs it. Use the support to confirm a word or sound, return to the Chinese text, and make the next reading or writing decision yourself.

What changed?

A beginner may recognize the topic of a text but get stuck on one word. Always showing every translation can make reading feel easier while reducing the need to notice Chinese form.

  • Shows pinyin and English vocabulary information for useful beginner words.
  • Keeps support optional so learners can first try reading the Chinese text directly.
  • Connects word support to a follow-up writing task instead of ending the session at translation.

Learning example

See the change in context

我喜欢喝茶。

Wǒ xǐhuān hē chá.

I like to drink tea.

How to use it

Start with a short text, notice the language you need, and write a response that remains your own. Use support as a next step rather than as a replacement for thinking.

  • Read the example
  • Write one meaningful sentence
  • Use a focused hint if blocked
  • Revise and save your version

What LangStep does not do

  • Pinyin is a reading aid, not a replacement for learning characters or practicing pronunciation.
  • Vocabulary support highlights selected words and cannot explain every possible meaning in every context.
  • The learner still needs to check the whole sentence and decide how to use a word.
